Atrial Fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia and increases the risk of stroke, heart failure, and other cardiovascular complications. It often occurs in valve diseases, such as mitral valve disease.

The Maze procedure or ablation is the most effective surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation. This procedure, along with the closure of the left atrial appendage (as a source of clots), is often performed alongside other cardiac surgeries.
